2027 Uniform Standards Prioritization Process

Have you ever wondered how the workplan for Uniform Standards development is established? It is a formal process that ramps up in the second half of each calendar year. The next step for the 2027 Uniform Standards Prioritization List is the Product Standards Committee's conference call meeting on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 3:00 pm ET / 2:00 pm CT.

To find the proposed 2027 Prioritization List and other materials, including a memo recapping the process up to this point, use the links on the Event page for this meeting. The registration link for the meeting is found on the same Event page.

This year, we sent a survey to all registered filing companies asking for their input on how to prioritize the requests for amended and new Uniform Standards submitted in 2026. The response rate was only 4% of registered companies, and we will look for ways to expand outreach and increase participation next year. However, filers and other stakeholders still have an opportunity to provide comments at this stage.

Written comments on the prioritization reflected in the proposed 2027 Prioritization List are to be submitted to Comments@insurancecompact.org by Tuesday, October 27. At this stage, the opportunity for comment is on the proposed prioritization assigned to each item. Any further ideas for new or amended standards concepts will be treated as requests for the following year's iteration of this process.

After the Product Standards Committee finalizes its recommendation, the next step for the 2027 Uniform Standards Prioritization List is a public hearing on the recommendation at the November 16 Joint Meeting of the Compact Management Committee and Commission.
