Payment of Fees in SERFF
This week's tip clarifies the current status of automatic calculations in the new SERFF platform. At the current time, filings that require actuarial review are not set to auto-calculate Compact or state fees. Further, if a filing that does not need actuarial review has forms that generate the Additional Filing Fee introduced in 2025, auto-calculation is not available. In other words, auto-calculation is available for filings that (1) do not require actuarial review based on the applicable Uniform Standards and (2) do not contain forms beyond the Base Filing Fee forms.
While the new SERFF platform is being enhanced to include all Compact and state filing fees in auto-calculation, the filer must override any auto-calculated amount for filings outside of the above parameters and enter the correct amount that you have self-calculated for Compact and state filing fees. If you are not sure what fees to pay, use the Advance Filing Fee Calculation service. When using this service, the filer overrides the auto-calculated Compact fee to $100 and state fees to $0. A detailed invoice will be provided in a Note to Filer with all the required fees broken out. All information regarding the filing fees may be found on the Compact’s website, specifically the Industry Resources page under Filing Fees.
